5 Common Mistakes to Avoid When Applying a Mobile Skin
Share
Applying a Style Wrap mobile skin is designed to be a simple and satisfying DIY project. However, achieving that flawless, "looks-like-paint" finish that makes your phone look incredible requires a little patience and avoiding a few common pitfalls.
Here are the top 5 mistakes people make when applying a mobile skin, and how you can avoid them.
Mistake #1: Not Cleaning Your Hands and Phone Properly This is the number one cause of bumps and bubbles. Even if your phone looks clean, it’s covered in natural oils from your fingers. The same goes for your hands.
-
The Fix: Before you even peel the skin off its backing, wash your hands thoroughly. Then, use the included alcohol wipe and microfiber cloth to clean every surface of your phone until it is completely free of dust and smudges.
Mistake #2: Rushing the Alignment It’s tempting to try and apply the whole skin at once, but this almost always leads to a crooked fit. A millimeter off at the top can become a centimeter off at the bottom.
-
The Fix: Use the camera cutout as your primary guide. Align it perfectly first. Lightly tack down only the top portion of the skin, check the alignment along the sides, and only proceed when you are 100% sure it's straight.
Mistake #3: Pressing Everything Down at Once Slamming the skin down will trap large air bubbles that are difficult to remove.
-
The Fix: Once aligned, work from the center outwards. Use your finger or a squeegee to apply firm, even pressure, pushing air out towards the edges as you go. This method ensures a smooth, bubble-free application.
Mistake #4: Using Too Much Heat (or Not Enough) Heat from a hairdryer is essential for getting the vinyl to soften and conform perfectly to the curved edges and corners of your phone.
-
The Fix: Use heat sparingly. Gently heat a corner or edge for a few seconds until it feels pliable, then use your thumb to smooth it down. Too much heat can overstretch or damage the vinyl.
Mistake #5: Panicking About Tiny Bubbles You’ve finished the application and notice one or two tiny air bubbles. Don’t panic and try to peel the skin back up!
-
The Fix: Our premium vinyl has air-release channels. For very small bubbles, simply press down on them firmly with your thumb. Often, they will work themselves out over the next 24-48 hours as the adhesive settles.
Patience is the key. Take your time, follow the steps, and you’ll achieve a professional-quality result every time.
